Her presentations include:

  • Reality vs. Law & Order: SVU: Using video clips from the popular TV show, Law & Order: SVU, this presentation explores pervasive myths about sexual violence, how they drive rape culture, and how the realities of survivors differ from the narratives these myths create. With an inclusive, survivor-centered, and anti-carceral approach to eliminating rape culture, Sara helps audiences unpack the internalization of rape culture and develop tools for dismantling rape culture on their campuses and in their communities.
  • The Politics of Sex and Reproductive Justice: Where are today’s unprecedented attacks on birth control and abortion coming from? This presentation explores the roots and nuances of the “war on women” through a reproductive justice and positive sexuality lens. In the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of Hobby Lobby, we must examine the stigma surrounding abortion and birth control, why it exists, how it relates to America’s campus sexual assault epidemic and impacts the LGBTQ equality movement. Attendees will leave this interactive presentation with a deep and intersectional understanding of the politics of sex and reproductive justice, plus the ability to apply it to other areas of feminist activism.
  • Feminist Theory for the Everyday Feminist: Are you interested in incorporating tenants of feminist theory into your life or work as a feminist? This is a crash course on how to bridge feminist theory’s popular ideas and terms with everyday realities. The goal of this workshop is to make feminist theory accessible and meaningful to the realities of feminists outside or  no longer part of academia, with close attention paid to socioeconomic barriers to engagement with feminist theory. Can be tailored to all levels of familiarity with feminism and feminist theory.
  • Queer Alphabet Soup: Not sure what all of the letters in LGBTQIA+ stand for? This introduction to queer identities and key terms related to gender and sexuality will map out a vocabulary that is useful in understanding the nuances and fluidity of gender and sexuality. Learn about the difference between bisexuality and pansexuality, gender queerness as an identity, and much more. Can be tailored to all levels of familiarity with gender, sexuality, and LGBTQIA+ equality.
  • The Power of Rural and Red State Feminism: As an Idahoan feminist, Sara is a passionate advocate for the power of rural and red state feminist activism. This presentation explores methods for rural and red state feminist community building, reducing feelings of isolation, and leveraging your unique and powerful role in the social justice movement. Despite tough cultural climates for feminist movement building, rural and red state feminists do essential intersectional organizing and social justice work with limited resources, support, and recognition. Sara guides audience members through power mapping, strength finding, and the discovery of unlikely allies to empower attendees to start or continue their critical activism.
