Here’s What Nobody Tells You About Being Sexually Assaulted

(Content Note: Sexual assault, victim-blaming)

“It happened to me, but I am not alone.”

In this culture of silencing survivors, you might not have heard these perspectives before. But if you’ve been sexually assaulted, they might be familiar.

This moving video features three different survivors reciting a poem about their experiences with assault – and how people treated them afterwards.

These survivors include a man, a woman who knew her attacker, and a woman who was assaulted by a stranger – and they’ve all heard horrible sentiments about what they’ve been through.

Nobody should have to go through this, and no survivor should be treated this way. This is a powerful example of how we can stand together to reclaim our truth – because no survivor is alone.
