Fabian Romero is a Two Spirit Queer Chicano poet, blogger, and community organizer.

Their sincere poetry and stories stem from their experiences as an Economic Refugee, speaking two languages, Queerness, and working as a migrant laborer. Fabian was born in Michoacán, Mexico and came to North America when they were seven years old.

Since 2007, they have performed poetry and facilitated anti-oppression and self care workshops throughout North America.

Their presentations include:

  • Self Preservation in Times of Oppression – This is a self-reflective workshop meant to address everyday struggles that can accumulate and result in burn out. Fabian Romero is a skilled facilitator that uses their popular education knowledge, performance art experience and strong presence to engage participants in a transformative learning workshop. The goals of this workshop is to expand on basic understandings of anti- oppression and privilege. It also meant to build community, self-care practices and every-day techniques to avoid burnout. This workshop is helpful for scholars with a basic understanding of systems of oppression and power structures.
  • Lost in Translation – This is a two day 10 hour writing intensive for people of color to write about the language of their people(s). For many reasons we as people of color are disconnected or removed from our language(s) including migration, assimilation, colonization and separation from community of origin. They started this workshop intensive when they began reconnecting to their far removed P’urepecha language and realized that they needed support to move through the emotions. They are bilingual and grew up with Spanish in their home and still speak Spanish and use it in their writing. This workshop is a self directed space, where participants are encouraged but not obligated to share about their experience, to try writing in their language(s) and to be in community with other folks who are doing the same thing.
  • Healing Masculinity This is a 2+ hour interactive workshop with facilitated discussions about healing hurt masculinity and looking at the benefits and privileges we are afforded as masculine people in the world. This conversation is for genders along the spectrum, masculinities across the spectrum. Although femme people and women are welcome to join, the discussion will focus on moving away from having femmes and women “do the work” for masculine folks by being the support roles in many of our lives. This is open to straight men of color, cis men of color regardless of sexuality.

All topics can be adapted to be presentations, keynote speeches, or workshops and can be tailored to the audience.

If you don’t see a topic that quite meets your needs but think we can cover it, just let us know. We are also willing to create a signature talk or workshop for groups.
