Here’s What Happened When Teens Talked to This Degrassi Star About Feminism

This is so cool – many of us know Adamo Ruggiero from his role as Marco on Degrassi: The Next Generation. And here he is speaking with an inspiring group of “next generation” activists with a visit to his old high school.

Sometimes in the movement, we tend to talk about youth as “the future.” But this conversation shows that young people are very much a part of our current moment, helping change the world we’re living in right now.

In this episode of Degrassi’s Connecting The Dots, Adamo gets high school students’ thoughts on what feminism means to them, their perspectives on issues related to race and LGBTQIA+ communities, and more.

As one Degrassi fan points out, it can be hard to look at the myths and stereotypes built around the word “feminism” and see where you belong. “It took a very long time,” Kary states in his blog post, “for me to understand that, based on the mindset already engrained into my being, I was a Feminist.”

These are the sorts of conversations Degrassi’s Connecting The Dots is seeking to facilitate, and given the powerful wisdom the young feminists featured in this video share, we can totally see why.
