What Happens When People Think You Don’t Look Like You Have an Eating Disorder

“That’s what’s so hard – no one sees it.”

Do you think you can tell if someone has an eating disorder just by looking at them? Many people picture a specific type of person when they think of eating disorders – and that person is usually a young, white, and very thin woman.

WatchCut Video invited people who have struggled with an eating disorder to respond to “you don’t look like you have an eating disorder” – and the results completely debunk the myth of what an eating disorder “looks like.”

This will remind you that eating disorders can affect people of all genders, races, sizes, and more. And just as important, the participants’ responses will show you what it feels like when our assumptions make their struggles invisible.

Let’s change this perspective.
