LGBTQIA+ Youth of Color Made This Video So You Can Know Your Rights with Police

(Content warning: strong language, police abuse, transphobia, homophobia)

“Get yr SAS facts!”

Knowing your rights is the “first step towards taking your power back from discriminatory police systems.” This video, based on the experiences of LGBTQIA+ youth of color in New York City, can help. It covers sexual harassment by police, warrants, inappropriate searches of trans and gender non-conforming youth, and more.

This is a Global Action Project, Community Media in Action Production, created in partnership with Streetwise and Safe (SAS).

SAS says, “We feel knowing your rights makes you more confident in protecting yourself during and after interactions with the police. We also know that the reality is that the police don’t always respect our rights but knowing what they are is important so that we can fight for them later.”

Visit the Streetwise and Safe website, and pass this vital info along to help your community stay safe.
