This Trans Man Was Fired Because of His Gender – Here’s How He’s Fighting Back

“Nobody should have that taken away from them.”

Work life was going well for Tristan Broussard – until his employers learned he was transgender.

With the help of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and others, Tristan has filed a lawsuit against his former employer for violating his civil rights. His fight shows some of the many obstacles trans people have to face in order to make a living.

SPLC staff attorney Sam Wolfe said, “Transgender people are due a fair chance at employment like anyone else. But the transgender community faces unacceptably high rates of unemployment and poverty due to widespread discrimination.”

We hope sharing Tristan’s story will help more people learn about the outrageous impact of transphobia in the workplace and the many ways in which transgender people are fighting back against these injustices.
