This Convo on Gay-Straight Alliances Really Shows Why Queer Youth Need Community

Have you ever been part of a Gay-Straight Alliance?

GSAs are youth-run programs where students can feel free to discuss issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity. Some people don’t realize why such programs are so important – and some even want to have GSAs banned.

But here’s a conversation that makes it so clear why these communities matter for young LGBTQIA+ people.

Degrassi’s continuing their teen discussion series Connecting the Dots with its new iteration, Degrassi Group Chat, and in this episode, they’re visiting a Gay-Straight Alliance club that’s making history in its location.

Adamo Ruggiero chats with young people who share what community means to them, what they’d say to people who want to ban GSAs, and more. Their discussion is at times hilarious, at times heart-wrenching, and in the end, very encouraging.

What does queer community mean to you? Join Degrassi’s group chat on GSAs to share!
